SUMMER INITIATION SEASON PROVINCIAL LAUNCH

The Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders (ECHOTL) in conjunction with the Chris Hani District Municipality will be launching the summer initiation season. The launch will be broadcasted live from Umhlobo Wenene FM 9AM-12 PM, and will take a form of live radio dialogue with a panel of experts.

COGTA MEC HOLD DISTRICT SESSIONS ON OPERATION MASIPHATHISANE AND ESTABLISHMENT OF WARD COMMITTEES

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC, Honourable Fikile Xasa, will on Wednesday, 09 November 2016, visit Alfred Nzo District Municipality and on Thursday, 10 November 2016 will visit Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan. The purpose of the visit is to unleash a programme to support War Rooms so that they become functional and realise their objectives.
The engagement session is part of the implementation of the Policy Speech delivered by MEC Xasa in April wherein he saidin the new financial year, Cogta’s plans include facilitating, supporting and monitoring the establishment of War Rooms in 705 Wards of the Province and the participation of traditional leaders therein.“The intention of setting up War Rooms is to broaden participation of civil society on issues of service delivery, planning as well as to enforce accountability by public representatives,” said MEC. SEVERE DROUGHT CONTINUES TO HIT EASTERN CAPE DISTRICTS

The Province of the Eastern Cape is still severely affected by the current drought situation, says the MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Fikile Xasa.MEC Xasa said most affected parts of the Province are Amathole, Alfred Nzo, Chris Hani, Joe Gqabi and OR Tambo District Municipalities.
The current drought is the result of a consequence of dry spells and extreme hot conditions associated with the strong 2015/16 El Nino event and preceding drier than normal years, especially over the central parts of the country.
“The recovery of the country at large form the drought conditions may take some time, depending on rainfall and temperature conditions over the spring through summer season,” said MEC Xasa. Continue reading
