All members of media are advised that COGTA MEC FD Xasa will visit initiation schools in the OR Tambo District tomorrow morning. This monitoring visit will concentrate particularly focus on hot spot areas of Ngqeleni and Mhlontlo where deaths have been reported thus far.
Another monitoring visit will be undertaken in Scenery Park in the Buffalo City Area at 14h00 today. This follows illegal circumsion of the young boys who were left to fend for themselves this weekend, “We remain determined to implement the Male Initiation Practice Act without fear or favour to protect life and limb, those operating illegal initiation schools have already been arrested and will face the full might of the law” said MEC Xasa. The MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Fikile Xasa will be undertaking roadshows to visit Nyandeni and Qamata Great Places on 07 and 08 June 2017, respectively.
The purpose of the visit, amongst other things is to discuss the provision of services, challenges facing Traditional leadership institutions, development local government, issues contained in the Policy Speech as well as the establishment of War Rooms to implement Operation Masiphathisane.
Amongst those who will attend the event are Troika members from O.R.Tambo, Nyandeni, Port St Johns as well as Chris Hani, Sakhisizwe, Emalahleni Intsika Yethu and Enoch Mgijima municipalities, representatives from Sector Departments, Municipal Managers and Community Development Workers (CDWs).
