MEC XASA TO VISIT GREAT PLACES AROUND THE PROVINCE

The MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Fikile Xasa will be undertaking roadshows to visit Great Places around the Province. These visits will take place between May and June 2017. The first of these visits will be on 09 May 2017 where MEC Xasa together with the Premier of the Eastern Cape Phumulo Masuale will visit Nqadu Great Placenear Willowvale. This is the home of amaXhosa King, Mpendulo “Zwelonke” Sigcawu.

The purpose of the visit, amongst other things is to discuss the provision of services, challenges facing Traditional leadership institutions, development local government, issues contained in the Policy Speech as well as the establishment of War Rooms to implement Operation Masiphathisane. This will be the second visit that MEC Xasa undertakes to the Great Place to address issues of service delivery.

“We are implementing the clause of the Freedom Charter which states that the People Shall Govern. The establishment of functional Ward Committees and War Rooms has opened a continuous dialogue between government and the people. This is the core strategic thrust of Operation Masiphathisane as an integrated service delivery model of our government through the War Room concept to enhance community driven service delivery,” said MEC Xasa. 

Amongst those who will attend the event are Troika members from Mnquma and Mbashe Local Municipalities, representatives from Sector Departments, Municipal Managers, Councillors and Community Development Workers (CDWs). The details of the visit are as follows:

The MEC will also visit Qamata and Nyandeni Great Places on 01 June and 02 June 2017 respectively.
